Hurricane Ike
It has been a crazy week in Columbus! The remnants of hurricane Ike blew into town and blew out the power. Some folks got their power back that same day and others are still sitting in the dark, including me! Good news is that the weather is gorgeous and I can access internet and charge phones, etc. in the store. I'm also thankful that I'm not in Texas and just can't imagine how tough it must be for those who have been affected by a serious storm. We are very lucky to be in Columbus and not Texas right now...Anyway, if you need to get out of the house, stop on by Red Rover and say "Hi!"
Some pics I borrowed from various blogs and news sites:

59 Year Old Gives Birth to Triplets!

From ParentDish: "A fifty-nine-year-old French woman has given birth to triplets after seeking fertility treatment. The new mom, unnamed at press time, sought fertility treatment in Vietnam after she was denied assistance in her home country.
In France, it is illegal for medical practitioners to provide fertility treatment when to women who are considered past the age of being able to procreate naturally. As a result, the pregnancy, once it became known, drew harsh criticism. from many in the French community. In other parts of the world, however, women are having children at ages much higher than fifty nine.
The woman gave birth to two sons and a daughter via C-section last Saturday. Mom, boys and girl are reportedly in good condition. In the United States women are free to seek fertility treatment whenever they want, as far as I understand. It certainly isn't illegal to provide such treatment, although some would say it is unethical."
What do you think? Is it unethical to seek fertility treatment at that age?

An Amazing Story of Survival
Walter Marino shouted to his 12-year-old son, Christopher, as he drifted farther away in the Atlantic Ocean. Christopher Marino loves swimming, which his dad believes helped save him."To infinity," the father yelled.
"And beyond," Christopher replied.
After a rip current swept the boy and his father out to sea Saturday, darkness fell, and the sound of rescue helicopters and boats grew faint until they were nonexistent.
Despite the danger, Christopher, who has autism, was enjoying himself, his father said. The boy lacks a fear of death because of his autism and finds comfort in the water, Marino told CNN.
Marino finds comfort in his son. Their unique circumstances helped keep them alive for more than 12 hours in the open ocean, Marino said.

Baby Music We Can Dig
This is so cool! Rockabye Baby was born from “the need to make children’s music cool—not only for babies but for their parents too.” Their albums contain music by U2, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day and others. The music is revamped into sweet & melodic lullabyes that both parents and babies can enjoy.I may have to get some CDs to sell in the store. Stay tuned!
